The Miami football team is ranked 18th in the first USA Today Coaches Poll of the 2020 regular season and 17th in the AP Media Poll as released on Sunday.

Following a victory over UAB on Thursday night, the Miami football team moved into the top 25 at number 18 in the first USA Today Coaches Poll of the 2020 regular season. Miami moved to 18th after being ranked 34th to start the season partially because of the absence of Big 10, Pac 12 and other conferences that are not playing.

Miami earned a 31-14 victory over UAB in its season opener on Thursday night. The Hurricanes are at number 16 Louisville on Saturday. The game is being telecast in primetime on ABC and ESPN College Gameday will be live with their show on Saturday morning ahead of the games kicking off at noon.

Miami was last ranked in the coaches poll when they were 16th following a 5-1 start in 2018. The Hurricanes began the 2018 season eighth after a 10-3 season in 2017. After the 10-0 start in 2017, Miami is 14-13 since. That includes victories over FCS programs in 2018 and 2019. Miami is 10-12 against Power Five teams since 2018.

The Hurricanes play all ACC teams in their final 10 games of 2020 starting with Louisville. Miami returns home to play Florida State on September 26 and has a bye week October 3. The Hurricanes travel to Clemson on October 10 for their biggest game since they lost in the 2017 Orange Bowl to Wisconsin.

Continuing to win and remain in the top 25 will help the Miami football program overall and looks good to the Hurricanes ninth-ranked 2021 recruiting class. The ESPN Football Power Index gives Louisville a 76.7 percent chance to defeat Miami. Miami won at home 52-27 over Louisville in 2019.

The Hurricanes offense overwhelmed the Cardinals in 2019. Miami had 449 yards of total offense. The Hurricanes threw for 252 yards and six touchdowns by since transferred quarterback Jarren Williams and 197 yards rushing. The rushing yards were 79 above the 118 Miami averaged per game in 2019.

Louisville is the first of four games Miami has scheduled against ranked teams in 2020.
