The Miami football team skyrocketed to eighth in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches poll following their 52-10 demolition of Florida State Saturday night.

The Miami football team achieved their highest ranking since the 2018 preseason poll moving up to eighth in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches poll on Sunday. The Hurricanes matched their eighth ranking in the 2018 preseason after a 52-10 annihilation of Florida State on Saturday night.

Miami earned its biggest victory over an FBS opponent since a 52-7 victory over Duke in 2005. The Hurricanes moved up six spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll and four in the AP Top 25. Next up for Miami is number on Clemson on October 10 following a bye week. Expect another ABC Primetime Game.

Miami could play its third consecutive game in the ABC Primetime Game of the Week at Clemson. The Hurricanes will play its first game as a top 10 ranked team against a top 10 opponent since the 2017 ACC Championship Game. That was also against the Tigers. Clemson dominated Miami 38-3.

Miami defeated number three Notre Dame 41-8 while ranked seventh in 2017. The Hurricanes began the 2017 season 10-0 and moved up to second in the College Football Playoff rankings before losing their final three games of the season.  The Miami rise in 2020 has been considerably because of an impressive offense.

Miami gained 517 yards and scored on all six of its possessions in the first half. The first five were touchdowns. The Hurricanes had to settle for a field goal at the end of the first half after being limited by time. Miami is 12th nationally averaging 43.3 points per game and 15th averaging 499 yards per game.

Clemson will be the biggest test for the new Miami offense. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee coached at Auburn and led the Tigers offense to an upset victory over Alabama in 2013 that put the Tigers in the SEC Championship. That Auburn team subsequently earned a berth in the final BCS National Championship Game.

dark. Next. Rhett Lashlee has Jimmy Johnson aggressiveness

Lashlee has shown through three games an aggressive approach to play calling. After coaching in the SEC Lashlee will not be intimidated against Clemson. Having veteran quarterback D’Eriq King in the biggest road game since number seven Miami lost at number three Florida State will help Miami greatly.
