The Miami football program has made its national presence known quickly in 2020. The Hurricanes will play in the ABC Primetime Game of the Week for the third consecutive game when they play at Clemson October 10 following a bye week. Miami defeated Louisville and Florida State in primetime the last two weeks.
Miami first appeared on the ABC College Football Primetime Game of the Week in 2020 after a season-opening 31-14 victory over UAB on September 10. The Hurricanes defeated Louisville 47-34 on September 19. The victory over the Cardinals was followed up with a rivalry record 52-10 victory over Florida State Saturday.
The game against Clemson is the biggest for Miami since they lost to Wisconsin in the 2017 Orange Bowl. With three ABC Saturday Primetime Game of the Week Appearances in 2020, Miami will have already exceeded the number the Hurricanes had in the 2018 and 2019 seasons combined.
Only their 2018 season opener against LSU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and the 2019 loss to Florida in the season opener at Camping World Stadium in Orlando were on the premiere college football game of the week televised by ABC. Miami is getting a chance to become a national brand with multiple national TV appearances.
The game at Clemson this season was an addition to the Miami football schedule with the revisions made because of COVID-19. Miami lost Duke and three non-conference games and gained Clemson, Louisville and North Carolina State. The game against the Tigers will be the Hurricanes’ biggest barometer of 2020.
The Miami offense has been one of the most dominant in college football through the first three weeks of Power Five teams playing. Miami is averaging 499 yards per game and 43.3 points. Those numbers will likely be much more modest against Clemson. How Miami plays against Clemson could impact the rest of 2020.
