The blistering start from the Miami Hurricanes offense has helped improve the draft stock of quarterback D’Eriq King.

The NFL Draft stock of Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King is up. King has led the Miami offense to a blistering start in 2020. King has proven the ability to lead a big-play offense with his ability to pass and run at QB. The Miami offense has improved greatly at QB and King is a huge reason why.

King received a lot of criticism in the past year after he redshirted following the first four games of the 2019 season at Houston. The Cougars coaching staff asked King to redshirt following a 1-3 start to their season. After the 2019 season was completed, King decided to transfer to Miami to play against Power Five competition.

Skeptics wonder about King’s height which is in reality about 5’9 hindering him in the NFL as a QB. There has been some projection that King could move to WR, where King played as a freshman at Houston in 2016, in the NFL. King is making a good case to play QB in the NFL leading what has been a potent Miami offense in 2020.

King is helped by the success of mobile sub 6’0 QBs like Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray. Wilson is listed at 5’11, Murray, a former top 10 pick in the MLB draft is listed at 5’10. King takes care of the ball with a 56-10 career touchdown to interception rate. Charles Power of 247 Sports profiled King’s draft stock.

"STOCK UP: D’ERIQ KING, MIAMIStats: 3 games, 63-94, 67%, 736 yards, 7.8 yards per attempt, 6 TD, 0 INT 153.85 passer rating, 157 rushing yards, 1 TDWhat we’ve seen so far: King is a fantastic college quarterback, but is he an NFL prospect at the position? At under 5-foot-9, he will certainly not be for everyone and doesn’t have the elite arm talent and running ability you see from someone like Kyler Murray. But that’s not to knock what King has done at Miami this far.He and new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee have transformed the Hurricanes’ offense through two games – a unit that is not brimming with receiver talent and is still breaking in some talented but inexperienced freshmen running backs.I’m not sure I see King being better than a Day 3 pick as a quarterback, but there are still some big tests with Clemson looming and he’s done nothing but help his case so far.Up Next: Oct. 10 at Clemson"

King has quickly improved his draft status with the Miami Hurricanes and is among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy this season. If the Hurricanes continue having an elite season, the NFL Draft Stock for King will continue to rise. King could become a hybrid player in the NFL similar to New Orleans Saints QB Taysom Hill.

Hill was an elite run first QB at BYU. With the Saints, he has played wide receiver, been on the coverage teams and been used on run-pass option plays at QB. King is more polished than Hill was coming out of college. With the Miami offense continuing to develop in 2020, the draft stock for King should continue to rise.
