Following their 42-17 loss at Clemson on Saturday the Miami football team dropped to a still-respectable 12th in the USA Today coaches poll and 13th in the AP Media Top 25.
The 42-17 loss to Clemson by the Miami football team on Saturday caused the Hurricanes to drop to 12th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 12th in the AP Media Poll. Miami dropped from seventh in both polls. The Hurricanes are the fourth highest-ranked ACC team in each poll. Clemson is first in both polls.
Miami will enter their game on Saturday against Pittsburgh ranked for the fourth game and fifth week in a row. The streak is the longest Miami has had since they were ranked for seven straight weeks and games to begin the 2018 season. Miami began 2018 ranked eighth nationally before a loss to LSU in the season opener.
Despite the loss, the streak of being ranked for five consecutive weeks is encouraging. Pittsburgh was ranked 21-25 during weeks two through four this season. The Panthers dropped out of the rankings after losing last week to North Carolina State. Pittsburgh lost 31-30 at Boston College on Saturday.
Miami is 1-1 against top 25 teams this season after the loss to Clemson. The Hurricanes were ranked 17th last month when they won at number 18 Louisville. Louisville dropped out of the rankings following a loss to Pittsburgh two weeks ago. The Cardinals were crushed 46-27 by Georgia Tech on Friday night.
Virginia Tech is the fifth ACC team in the top 25. The Hokies lost to North Carolina 56-45 on Saturday. Virginia Tech fell five spots to 23rd in the USA Today Poll and four to AP Poll. Miami will play at Virginia Tech on November 14. The Hurricanes game at the Hokies is the only one Miami is projected to lose by the Football Power Index.
Miami has to put the Clemson game behind them. The Hurricanes will conclude the season at home against North Carolina on December 5. Miami could still have a spot in the ACC Championship Game and a potential rematch with Clemson on the line. There is still a lot for the Miami football team to play for in 2020.
