Miami Football moves up to 11th in Coaches and Media Top 25

The Miami football team moved up to 11th in the AP Media Top 25 and the USA Today coaches poll following their 31-19 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Following their 31-19 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Miami football team moved up to 11th in the AP Media Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Hurricanes moved up from 13th in the AP and 12th in the USA Today polls following their loss to Clemson last week. Miami had been seventh previously.

The Hurricanes reached the season-high seventh ranking after being unranked to begin the 2020 season. Miami has now been ranked for six straight weeks. Miami entered the poll 17th on September 13 following their 31-14 season-opening victory over UAB. The ranking streak is the longest Miami has had since 2018.

Miami began the 2018 season ranked eighth. The Hurricanes fell out of the poll after a 16-13 loss at Virginia as the 16th ranked team. Ironically, Miami will host Virginia on Saturday. Miami began the 2018 season 5-1. The Hurricanes enter the 2020 game with Virginia 4-1. The Cavaliers have started 2020, 1-3.

Virginia lost its third straight game 40-23 at Wake Forest on Saturday. Miami will enter its game with Virginia with a 3-1 record in the ACC tied for fourth with North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Clemson leads the ACC with a 4-0 record, 5-0 overall. Notre Dame is second at 4-0 and North Carolina State is 4-1 in the ACC.

Miami has games late this season against the Tar Heels, Hokies and Wolfpack. After hosting Virginia on Saturday, Miami will have a bye week on Halloween. The Hurricanes are the third highest-ranked team in the ACC behind top-ranked behind top-ranked Clemson and third-ranked Notre Dame.

Six ACC are ranked in both polls this week. North Carolina fell nine spots to 14th in the AP Poll and seven to 13th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Virginia Tech is ranked 19th and 20th and North Carolina State moved into the polls at 23 and 22. Miami is projected to play five of its 11 games this season against ranked teams.
