Miami Hurricanes QB prospect Jake Garcia eligible immediately at new Georgia HS
The saga of Miami Hurricanes quarterback prospect and current USC commit Jake Garcia took another turn this week when his transfer from Valdosta High School in southern Georgia to Grayson High outside Atlanta was announced.
The transfer of Miami Hurricanes quarterback prospect Jake Garcia was confirmed by his father Randy to ESPN on Wednesday. Garcia who is committed to USC transferred from his home in California to Valdosta High School in southern Georgia is now reportedly tranfering against yo Grayson High School outside Atlanta.
Randy Garcia is a former Nebraska QB. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Jake Garcia’s recruitment. USC has fellow four-star QB Miller Moss committed for the Class of 2021 and just offered another four-star QB, Jaxson Dart of Draper Utah.
Randy Garcia legally separated from Jake’s mother to try and secure eligibility for Jake at Valdosta. Garcia played one game for Valdosta in the season opener against Warner Robins, Georgia before being sidelined with an injury and then being ruled ineligible. Garcia will have immediate eligibility at Grayson.
ESPN and the Through the Smoke Podcast both reported on Wednesday that the Georgia State High School Association has not received paperwork that Garcia was transferring from Valdosta to Grayson. How this all affects Garcia’s recruitment and more specifically Miami will evolve until National Signing Day in December.
Miami was originally the favorite to receive a commitment from Garcia. In September 2019, the crystal balls from 247 Sports projected that Garcia would commit to Miami. Five-star 2020 QB Bryce Young flipped from USC and eventually signed with Alabama. Shortly after Young de-committed, Garcia committed to USC.
Garcia appealed the decision by the GHSA to gain immediate eligibility but with time getting short, decided to move on to Grayson. Grayson will become the fifth high school that Garcia has attended. Garcia is planning on enrolling early at USC. There have been no reports when Garcia would enroll if he flips to Miami.
