Miami Hurricanes offense outscoring and gaining more than opponents allow

The Miami Hurricanes offense is scoring more points and gaining more yards across the board than their opponents allow.

The Miami Hurricanes offense is scoring more points, gaining more total yards, rushing yards and passing yards than their opponents allow this season. Clemson would have been the only team to hold Miami below each of the above-mentioned categories if the Hurricanes did not return a blocked field goal for a touchdown.

Miami opponents on average are allowing  25.45 points per game, the Hurricanes are averaging  32.83 points per game for a difference of 7.38 points per game more than their opponents allow. Miami is 42nd in scoring offense in 2020. As a cumulative defense Miami opponents would rank in 38th in points allowed per game.

Miami opponent defenses are allowing an average of 364.3 total yards per game. The Hurricanes are averaging 413.17 yards per game for an average of 48.87 more yards than their opponents allow. Miami is 44th this season in total offense. The cumulative average of the Miami opponents would rank 33rd in total defense.

The Miami rushing offense got off to a blistering start to the 2020 season with 337 yards against UAB. Overall Miami ranks 48th in rushing offense with an average of 169.5 yards per game. Miami opponents are allowing an average of 139.48 rushing yards per game. That would rank 46th in rushing yards allowed per game.

Miami scored 3.5 points per game more than Clemson average. The offense gained 64.7 yards less than Clemson allows for the season. The Hurricanes had 16.33 yards less than Clemson allows rushing and 48.3 yards less than Clemson allows passing. Virginia is the only team to hold Miami below their scoring average in 2020.

The Cavaliers have allowed an average of 31.6 PPG in 2020. Miami scored 19. The Hurricanes gained 24.4 yards more than Virginia allows. Miami ran for 12 yards less than Virginia allows on the season, but through for 36 more. Clemson is the only team that has kept Miami below what they allow defensively in 2020.

The rushing yardage for Miami this season is completely skewed by their performance against UAB. Louisville, Clemson, Florida State and Virginia have all kept Miami below the rushing yardage their defenses allow in 2020. Clemson and Pittsburgh are the only defenses who kept Miami below what they allow passing.

The Miami Hurricanes rushing offense is going to have to be more productive in the second half of the season. Against Power Five opponents this season, the Hurricanes are 38th with an average of 136 rushing yards per game. Miami is 37th against Power Five opponents with an average of 3.74 yards per carry.

Miami is averaging 48.87 total yards more per game than their opponents allow on average. The Hurricanes average 30.02 rushing yards per game more than their opponents allow and 24.38 more passing yards per game than opponents allow. Miami was plus 172.2 YPG more than UAB allows, 171 of which was rushing.

The ACC opponents are allowing 11 more yards per game this season than UAB. ACC teams are also playing all ACC opponents except one game this year. Miami’s numbers have mostly gone down in their last four games. Miami is scoring 4.93 PPG more than their ACC opponents are allowing in 2019.

That includes the blocked field goal TD against Clemson. Miami is averaging 11 more total yards per game more than their ACC opponents allow, 0.83 yards more rushing per game and 13.19 passing yards per game more. Miami needs more consistency offensively to make be a serious challenger to play in the ACC Championship Game.
