The Miami football program would have a third bye week this season if it qualifies for the ACC Championship Game after the conference revealed the game will be played on December 19.

The ACC Championship Game will be played on December 19 as confirmed by the conference on Thursday. If the Miami football program qualifies for one of the two spots in the ACC title game the Hurricanes would have their third bye of the season. Counting bowl games since 2017 Miami has lost eight straight games following a bye.

Miami is currently 5-1 overall, 4-1 in the ACC tied with North Carolina for third in the conference behind Clemson who is 5-0 in the ACC and Notre Dame who is 4-0. The Hurricanes one loss was to Clemson earlier this month. Miami does not play Notre Dame in 2020 and will host the Tar Heels on December 5.

The only appearance Miami had in the ACC Championship Game occurred in 2017. Miami won the ACC Coastal Division with a 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in the ACC. The 2017 season was the only outright Coastal Division title Miami has. The Atlantic and Coastal Divisions have been eliminated in 2020 and Notre Dame was added.

Prior to hosting North Carolina in the 2020 season finale, Miami will play at North Carolina State on November 6, play at Virginia Tech on November 14, host Georgia Tech on November 21 and play their last road game of the season on November 28 at Wake Forest. Miami should be favored in every game except Virginia Tech.

The 2020 ACC Football Championship Game will be played in Charlotte for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. The 2016 game was played in Orlando due to the anti-LGBT House Bill Two in North Carolina. The ACC Championship Game has returned to Charlotte the last two seasons and for the scheduled game this year.

The Miami football team will need some help to qualify for the ACC Championship Game. Clemson hosts Notre Dame on November 7. If Miami and Notre Dame win out and finish 9-1 in the ACC the tiebreaker would come down to the teams’ overall records against the teams finishing four and continuing until the tie is broken.
