Through their first six games, the Miami Hurricanes defense has mostly outperformed what opposing offenses are averaging this season.

The Miami Hurricanes defense overall has outperformed what opposing offenses are averaging this season.

Miami has held on average opposing offenses below their points per game, total yards and rushing yards while slightly allowing more passing yards per game than opponents normally allow.  The 11 teams on the Miami Hurricanes 2020 schedule average 31.32 points per game.

The six teams Miami has played so far are allowing an average of 29.8 points per game. Miami has allowed 22.17 PPG this season. Louisville is the only team that exceeded their scoring output for the season against Miami.

The Cardinals average 28.5 points per game. Miami won 47-34 at Louisville. The 29.8 PPG scored on average by the first six opponents Miami has played this season would rank 51st as a team. UAB who Miami defeated 31-14 in the season opener is averaging 29.8 PPG. The Miami defense is 27th in scoring defense.

The five remaining teams on the Miami schedule average 33.14 points per game. Cumulitavely the Miami opponent would rank 41st nationally just ahead of Georgia. Four of the five teams remaining on the Miami schedule average more PPG than anyone the Hurricanes played in the first six except Clemson.

The 2020 Miami opponents average 426.55 total yards per game. The Hurricanes first five opponents average 413.32 total yards per game this season and the five remaining opponents average 442.42 total yards per game. The Miami defense has held four of their first five opponents below their average YPG.

Louisville finished with 515 total yards against Miami. That was 98.50 yards above the Cardinals average of 416.5 total yards this season.

Clemson was the other Miami opponent to exceed their average output per game offensive. Clemson had  550 total yards against the Huricanes, that was 32 yards above their average of 51 YPG.
