The Miami Hurricanes prepare to play North Carolina State could potentially play quarterback Ben Finley the brother of former Wolfpack signal-caller Ryan Finley who started the 2016 game between the ACC crossover programs.

When the Miami Hurricanes travel to Raleigh to play North Carolina State on Friday night a familiar name will likely see time at quarterback. Ben Finley, the brother of Wolfpack second all-time leading passer Ryan Finley was listed as the backup QB to Bailey Hockman for North Carolina State on Saturday.

A true freshman, Ben Finley made his Wolfpack debut in a 48-21 loss to North Carolina. Finley was 13-20 for 143 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Hockman a former Florida State QB had completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 531 yards, three TDs and four interceptions this season.

Ryan Finley trails only potential future Pro Football Hall of Famer Philip Rivers in North Carolina State history with 10,501 passing yards, completed a Wolfpack record 64.5 percent of his (for five or more) of his passing attempts with 60 TDs and 25 interceptions. Finley added 309 career rushing yards and five TDs.

Ryan was 20-44 for 210 yards, no TDs and one interception with four carries for 23 yards in a 27-13 Miami win the last time Hurricanes played at North Carolina State in 2016. That was the last time Miami and NC State. Mark Walton led the way for Miami with 120 rushing yards, three TDs and one reception for 19 yards.

Ryan is currently the backup QB with the Cincinnati Bengals after being a fourth-round pick by Cincinnati in the 2019 NFL Draft. Ben was the 28th ranked Pro-Style QB in 2020 out of Paradise Valley High School in Phoenix. Ben is considered more of an athlete than Hockman or Ryan. NC State head coach Dave Doeren discussed Ben.

"“He can really run…I think that’s one of the thing that separates him from the other guys…He’s really athletic.”"

Hockman and Ben Finley are competing for playing time behind Devin Leary who suffered a broken fibula against Duke three weeks ago and is expected to miss four to eight weeks. Leary missed the first two games this season because of COVID-19 issues but played spectacularly in the four games he played.

NC State exceeded expectations by winning three of the four games that Leary played. Leary completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 879 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions this season.

The Miami Hurricanes enter the NC State game Friday night allowing the ninth-most passing yards per game in the ACC, 240.3. The Hurricanes are fourth in ACC with a passer rating against of 123.12.

dark. Next. Miami football clearly third-best in ACC

North Carolina State has the fourth-best passing offense in the ACC averaging 261 yards per game. The Wolfpack are ninth in the ACC with a 136.98 passer rating against. NC State is 12th in the averaging 131.83 rushing yards per game. The Miami defense will likely be more concerned with the Wolfpack pass offense.
