Miami Hurricanes defeat NC State behind D’Eriq King legendary performance
D’Eriq King threw for 430 yards and five touchdowns, ran 15 times for 105 yards and his brilliant play at the end of the game to go down to run the clock out led the Miami Hurricanes to a heart-stopping 44-41 victory over North Carolina State.
D’Eriq King had a legendary performance with 435 passing yards and five touchdowns and 105 rushing yards and the Miami Hurricanes survived in Raleigh 44-41 with 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. King had to lead Miami to a comeback victory with a legendary performance in a program full of them.
Senior wide receiver Mike Harley put up his second straight big game with eight receptions for 153 yards, two TDs and the game-winning score with 2:43 remaining from King. Harley has 18 receptions for 323 yards and three TDs in the last two games for Miami. Several players stepped up to contribute to the victory.
Miami was missing 11 players including junior tight end Brevin Jordan who it was reported was healthy but not available. The top four receivers for Miami all went over 75 yards including TE Will Mallory who started in place of Jordan for the third straight game. Mallory finished with six receptions for 78 yards and a TD.
The Miami Hurricanes defense who struggled all game made a pair of huge plays in the fourth quarter to put the offense in position to get the win. A sack by Te’Cory Couch on third and five on the Wolfpack’s penultimate drive preceded a D.J. Ivey interception after the Harley TD put Miami in front and the Canes pulled it out.
The Miami defense which allowed 410 yards of offense limited North Carolina State to six in the fourth quarter. Miami was able to overcome 11 penalties for 101 yards and some special teams miscues including a North Carolina State kickoff return for a TD to put the Wolfpack ahead in the third quarter.
Jose Borregales added three field goals, including two big ones in the fourth quarter and made all five of his extra-point attempts. Cam Harris got going again with 15 carries for 62 yards, Mark Pope had six receptions for 97 yards and a TD, Mallory 6-78 to set career highs with a TD and Dee Wiggins had 7-77 and a TD.
Miami receiving contributions throughout the offense plus the performance by Borregales. The game will always be known as the D’Eriq King game. King lived up to his name. He put the Miami football team on his back and made big play nearly every time Miami needed one to improve the Hurricanes to 6-1 this season.
