The de-commitment from three-star cornerback Tim Burns caused the 2021 Miami football recruiting class to drop one spot to 13th in the rankings.

The 2021 Miami football recruiting class lost their only cornerback when Tim Burns from Miami Northwestern announced his de-commitment from the Hurricanes on Monday via Twitter. Burns is rated a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, the 784th ranked player nationally, the 64th ranked CB and 105th ranked player in Florida.

The de-commitment of Burns brings the number of committed players to the Miami football program for 2021 to 21 players. Miami drops from 12th to 13th in the rankings falling behind Oklahoma. The Hurricanes remain second in the ACC, third if you count Notre Dame, in the 2021 recruiting rankings.

None of the cornerbacks currently on the Miami football roster are seniors. The Hurricanes have juniors Al Blades Jr. and D.J. Ivey, sophomore Te’Cory Couch and freshman Marcus Clarke and Isaiah Dunson. With only five cornerbacks on the roster, losing Burns is critical. Miami is going to likely have to add at least to CBs in 2021.

Cornerbacks, four-star Markevious Brown of IMG Academy in Bradenton and three-star Marvin Covington from Mansfield, Texas are the CBs Miami is currently recruited most heavily. There has been no information if the recruitments of Brown and Covington played a role in the decision for Burns to de-commit.

None of the 2021 commitments are binding until National Signing Day next month. Three-star 2021 athlete Malik Curtis was projected to be a CB in college, but he primarily plays offense at Bishop Verot in Fort Myers. Miami has the option of seeking a CB through junior college or the transfer portal in addition to a high school signee.

Multiple Power Five CBs are available through the transfer portal. That includes three four-star CBs available to Miami. Miami 2020 signee Christian Williams entered the transfer portal earlier this season. The Hurricanes depth will be precarious with five CBs entering the 2021 season.
