Expect the Miami football team to be ranked in the top 10 when the College Football Playoff rankings are released on November 24.

The Miami football team is likely to be ranked inside the top 10 when the College Football Playoff rankings are released on November 24. Miami is currently ranked ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 12th in the AP Top 25 that was released on Sunday. The Hurricanes rankings came a day before Miami suspended its season.

CBS Sports college football analyst Jerry Palm released what he thinks the rankings would look like if they were released this week. Palm has Miami ranked eighth. Moving up four spots to earn a berth in the College Football playoff is an extremely difficult task for the Miami football team at this point.

Palm has Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson as his top four teams who would earn berths in the College Football Playoff. Just missing out and ahead of Miami are Texas A&M, Florida and Wisconsin. Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Wisconsin are undefeated, the remainder of the top eight have one loss.

Notre Dame defeated Clemson who defeated Miami. Alabama defeated Texas A&M who defeated Florida. The top teams are knocking each other off. With conferences playing a different amount of games this season selecting the College Football Playoff teams will be difficult. A few Group of Five teams are undefeated.

BYU is 8-0, Cincinnati 7-0. The Big 10 has played four weeks and the Pac 12 two. Wisconsin has missed two weeks because of COVID-19 testing and contact tracing.

Oregon led by head coach Mario Cristobal who is a former Miami offensive lineman will be a team to watch over the next month as a challenger to make the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings.

On Monday Miami postponed its next three games. The Hurricanes will be off the next two Saturdays. Miami will play Wake Forest on December 5 in its next game.

The Hurricanes will follow with North Carolina on December 12. Georgia Tech who Miami was scheduled to play Saturday is tentatively scheduled for December 19.

The game against the Yellow Jackets is tentatively scheduled to be played the same day as the ACC Championship game. The rescheduling process for Miami is complicated, especially the game against Georgia Tech. Miami will play Georgia Tech only if the game does not impact who plays in the ACC Championship Game.

"“**This game will be played if Miami is not in the ACC Football Championship Game and if the result of the Georgia Tech at Miami game would not directly impact the determination of which two teams do play in the league championship game.”"

The official Miami Hurricanes athletic site gave the explanation of the determination if the game against Georgia Tech will be played. Miami likely needs Clemson to lose once or Notre Dame to lose twice to earn a spot in the ACC Championship Game.

Should that happen and Miami win the ACC they would have a chance at the CFP. Notre Dame will next play North Carolina on November 27, Syracuse on December 5 and Wake Forest on December 12.

Clemson is scheduled to play Florida State on Saturday, Pittsburgh November 28 and Virginia Tech on December 5. Schedules have been altered for many teams due to COVID-19 cancellations. If Clemson and Notre Dame win out they will play in the ACC Championship Game.

Miami has to win its last two games and hope for help when Clemson and Notre Dame play. A three-way tie is possible. The most direct path for Miami is the two losses by Notre Dame or one by Clemson and win out.
