Manny Diaz has significantly reduced where he sits on the Miami football hot seat after leading the Hurricanes to a 7-1 start to the 2020 season.

After a 6-7, 2019 Miami football season head coach Manny Diaz was on the hot seat. With the Hurricanes off to a 7-1 start in 2020 Diaz has significantly reduced his hot seat. Diaz fired offensive coordinator Dan Enos after the 2019 season and replaced him with Rhett Lashlee.

Diaz knew Miami needed upgrades at quarterback, on the defensive line and at kicker after the 2019 season. The additions of QB D’Eriq King, defensive end Quincy Roche and kicker Jose Borregales have transformed Miami. King and Borregales have often been the difference between winning and losing in 2020.

Miami has learned how to win games in 2020 that would have been losses in 2019. The Hurricanes have rallied from double-digits in the second half of the last two games to pull out late victories. King has helped Diaz and the Miami coaching staff transform the culture of the Miami football program.

In an article about coaches on the hot seat and the beginning of the season compared to now, CBS Sports stated Manny Diaz’s seat is cooling off. The other levels used by CBS were Heating up and Holding steady. The explanation of the hot seat ratings from zero through five and profile of Diaz by CBS Sports are below.

Diaz has Miami trending in the right direction. COVID-19 put Miami on a two-week pause with their games against Georgia Tech on Saturday and Wake Forest on November 28 rescheduled. The Hurricanes are now tentatively scheduled to play Wake Forest on December 5 and Georgia Tech on December 19.

The game against the Yellow Jackets will only be played if Miami does not qualify for the ACC Championship Game or the game is necessary to determine who qualifies. Miami’s game against North Carolina was moved from December 5 to 12. If Miami can win out they will likely receive an invitation to a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
