With the week off the Miami football team remained ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll and moved to 10th in the AP Top 25.

The Miami football team remained ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll and moved to 10th in the AP Top 25 on Sunday. With the Hurricanes off this weekend and next, losses by Indiana to Ohio State and Wisconsin were the reasons for Miami moving up two spots in AP Top 25 after falling three spots last week.

Miami is solidly ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Hurricanes picked up 18 points over last week and are 98 points behind BYU. Miami is 108 points ahead of Georgia who is ranked 10th. Miami moved up two spots in the AP Top 25 to 10th with 936 points. Oregon also moved up two spots and has 951 points.

Northwestern moved up eight spots in the AP and is 14 points behind Miami. In the USA Today Poll, the Wildcats moved up seven spots. Miami will remain off Thanksgiving Weekend as they continue to recover from a widespread COVID-19 outbreak. Miami is next scheduled to play on December 5 against Wake Forest.

Miami is also scheduled to play North Carolina on December 12 and Georgia Tech on December 19 depending on if the Hurricanes qualify for the ACC Championship game or if the game against the Yellow Jackets impacts who finishes first or second in the conference. Miami is currently tied with Clemson second in the ACC at 6-1.

Notre Dame leads the ACC with a 7-0 conference record. The Tigers hold the tiebreaker with the Hurricanes because of their head to head victory. Miami is projected to play in either the Peach or Orange Bowls by most major media outlets. The Hurricanes have to focus on themselves and just keep winning.

If the Miami football team wins out they will have a chance to finish in the top five. Florida will likely play Alabama in the SEC Championship game and Texas A&M plays Auburn. If Clemson loses a second time to Notre Dame in the ACC Championship Game Miami could be ranked ahead of the Tigers depending on the margin.

The 2020 season also has the rarity of two Group of Five schools, Cincinnati of the American Athletic Conference is ranked seventh in both polls and Independent BYU is eighth. Miami was scheduled to play Temple this season, but the game was canceled with the COVID-19 reschedule.

dark. Next. Miami moving up to AP Poll Top 10 depends how far Indiana falls

The Bearcats and Owls are scheduled to play Saturday. Miami is not likely to pass either BYU or Cincinnati if the Cougars and Bearcats remain undefeated. A victory over UNC will help Miami. The 6-2 Tar Heels play Notre Dame Friday. If North Carolina can defeat Notre Dame they will almost definitely be ranked.
