The Miami football program is building a good relationship with 2022 five-star pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California.

Currently without a quarterback in the Class of 2021, the Miami football program is continuing to send out offers in the Class of 2022 as well. The latest scholarship offer sent out by the Hurricanes is to the second-ranked pro-style QB in the class of 2022, five-star Maalik Murphy from Gardena, California.

Murphy told Greg Biggins of 247Sports.Com that he is building a good relationship with the Miami football staff. Miami has offered scholarships to seven pro-style QBs and four dual-threat QBs in the Class of 2022. Quinn Ewers, the number two national recruit in 2022 and top-ranked pro-style QB is the only committed Miami offer.

Murphy has received offers from 24 Power Five schools. Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and UCLA are leading to sign Murphy according to 247 Sports. It is still very early in the process and if Miami can receive a commitment from Murphy it would be a huge boost to the Hurricanes 2022 class.

Miami currently has the 18th ranked class for 2022, but the Hurricanes have only two commits. Four-star defensive tackle Brandon Cleveland and three-star defensive end Jaamal Johnson are the only players committed to Miami in 2022. Murphy spoke to Biggins about the 2022 Miami season and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.

"“I really like Miami a lot and I’m building a good relationship with their coaching staff. I’ve been talking a lot with Rhett Lashlee (OC/QB coach) and he’s a good guy and someone I’m already pretty comfortable with so that offer meant a lot to me.I haven’t had a chance to watch a lot of Miami this season but I know about their program and their tradition…They’re going in the right direction and I would love to get out there for a visit if I can.The dead period makes it tough but I’m going to learn as much as I can about them and I think I fit in well with what they want to do offensively.  I’ve heard so many great things about their programs and they have produced so many great players over the year so I know it’s a special place.”"

Miami is currently recruiting four-star QB Jake Garcia in the Class of 2021. With Early National Signing Day less than a month away, it increasingly seems that Garcia will stick with his commitment to USC. There are not many choices left for Miami in the Class of 2021 for the Hurricanes to flip.

No major QBs in the Class of 2021 are left uncommitted. Miami could look into the transfer portal again during the 2021 offseason if D’Eriq King does not return for a second season with the Hurricanes. Murphy would be a huge addition to the 2022 Class. A decision appears a long way off for Murphy.
