The Atlantic Coast Conference has options for the Miami football team after Wake Forest Canceled their December 5 game with the Hurricanes late on Saturday afternoon.

The Miami football program who was scheduled to return to play for the first time in three weeks on December 5 against Wake Forest had the game canceled by the Demon Deacons late on Saturday afternoon. The Atlantic Coast Conference has options for Miami to play in place of Wake Forest.

The Wake Forest versus Miami football game is almost definitely canceled. The Demon Deacons are scheduled to host Notre Dame on December 12 and finish the regular season at Louisville on December 19. Notre Dame is scheduled to host Syracuse on December 5. It is unlikely the ACC would alter the Notre Dame games.

Miami has Georgia Tech and North Carolina remaining on its schedules. The Yellow Jackets have games remaining on December 5 at North Carolina State, December 10 at home against Pittsburgh and is tentatively scheduled to play at Miami on December 19. Re-scheduling Georgia Tech makes sense.

North Carolina State has only the December 5 game at Georgia Tech remaining plus any bowl game with a 6-3 record heading into their game with the Yellow Jackets. With Georgia Tech and NC State having open dates on December 19 it would make sense to move the Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes to December 5.

That would allow Miami to keep open their slim possibility of qualifying for the ACC Championship game and not losing another game. There would also be the potential to add another game for Miami against an ACC team that has not been on their 2020 schedule. Moving the North Carolina game is also an option.

The Tar Heels are scheduled to play Western Carolina on December 5. With the Miami game against North Carolina scheduled for December 12 at Hard Rock Stadium flipping those dates would make sense. The long shot of giving Miami a second non-conference game could also exist.

Wake Forest canceled the game against Miami scheduled for December 5 due to “positive tests, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Wake Forest football team. The team is adhering to the outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report.” per the official website MiamiHurricanes.Com.

The ACC will look for an alternate opponent according to Paul Austria of Five Reasons Sports and the Five Rings Canes Podcast on Twitter. The above scenarios all seem possible. Expect a decision announced as soon as possible as long as Miami stays COVID-19 free and avoids any contact tracing.
