The Miami football program could look to the transfer portal to add depth at cornerback with Ronald Delancy III who announced his entry on Friday.

Former Miami Northwestern Bull Ronald Delancy III could be a boost to the lack of depth for the Miami football program at cornerback through the transfer portal for 2021. Delancy announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Friday from Nebraska. Delancy considered the Hurricanes out of high school.

Delancey was a three-star signee with the Cornhuskers in the Class of 2020 after considering 18 schools out of high school. Seven of the schools that Delancy considered coming out of Northwestern were Power Five schools including Miami and ACC rivals Louisville and Wake Forest.

Miami lost their only commitment from a true CB in the Class of 2021 when three-star Tim Burns de-committed. Malik Curtis who is committed to the 2021 Miami recruiting class is regarded by the Hurricanes staff as a CB and return man in college but plays primarily on offense at Bishop Verot in Fort Myers.

Miami is expected to have its five scholarship CBs return in 2021. Juniors Al Blades and D.J. Ivey, sophomore Te’Cory Couch and freshmen Marcus Clarke and Isaiah Dunson should be back in 2021. Blades and Ivey have the option to enter the NFL Draft and have two seasons of eligibility with the extra year granted by the NCAA.

All fall 2020 athletes were granted the extra season by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Miami is likely looking to sign another CB in their 2021 Class and through the transfer portal. The Hurricanes are down to five scholarship CBs after losing 2019 signee Christian Williams at the beginning of the 2020 season.

Delancy was a key part of two Northwestern state championships. According to Riley Gates of 247 Sports, Delancy recorded 50 plus tackles, four interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns, three blocked field goals and a safety as a senior. Delancy also won a state title at Carol City as a freshman in 2016.

Delancy was a teammate of Miami junior running back Cam’Ron Harris at Carol City. Like Blades and Ivey, Harris has the option to turn pro after the 2020 season. Harris was a junior at Carol City in 2018 when Delancy was a freshman. There is no indication where Delancy is considering transferring to.
