Sunday. Miami moved up from 10th in the AP Top 25 after Oregon plummeted to 21st following 41-38 loss in the Civil War to Oregon State. Miami remained ninth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Miami has been ranked every week this season except the preseason poll. The Hurricanes have now been ranked for 11 straight weeks. This is the longest streak for the Miami football program in the top 25 of the AP since they were ranked for 24 straight weeks from the last poll of 2016 through week seven in 2018.
Miami is the third highest-ranked team in the ACC behind number two Notre Dame and Clemson who is ranked fourth in the AP Top 25 and moved up to third past idle Ohio State in the Coaches Poll. Clemson defeated Pittsburgh 52-17 in their first game in three weeks and the first game in four weeks for QB Trevor Lawrence.
Currently, Miami will not have a chance to move up in the polls on their own with a victory until December 12. The Hurricanes game at Wake Forest on Saturday was canceled by the Demon Deacons because of a COVID-19 outbreak. Miami is scheduled to host North Carolina on December 12 and Georgia Tech on December 19.
The ACC could add another game to the Miami schedule or more a Georgia Tech or North Carolina games for December 5 for Miami to have a game on Saturday. Both Georgia Tech and North Carolina have open dates remaining that would allow Miami to play them on Saturday. Another ACC game could also be added.
Notre Dame is out with games scheduled for Saturday and December 12. The Fighting Irish are a near lock to play in the ACC Championship Game on December 19, likely against Clemson. Miami would need the Tigers to lose once or Notre Dame twice to qualify. Duke, Boston College and Syracuse are all possibilities.
