The Miami football team can avenge five of its seven losses from 2019 in their last five games of the 2020 season.

The Miami football team avenged one of its losses from 2019 when they won at Virginia Tech on November 14. Miami can have a run of five straight games to finish the 2020 season with victories over teams that gave them five of their seven losses in 2019. The run has a chance to continue on Saturday against Duke.

After the Blue Devils, Miami finishes the 2020 season with games against North Carolina on December 12 and tentatively against Georgia Tech on December 19 depending on who qualifies for the ACC Championship Game. Miami is still in the race but needs a loss by Clemson or two by Notre Dame to qualify.

The Fighting Irish host 1-8 Syracuse on Saturday and would qualify for Charlotte with an expected victory. Notre Dame is tentatively scheduled to play Wake Forest on December 12. The Demon Deacons had to cancel their game with Miami this Saturday because of a COVID-19 outbreak. The ACC then scheduled Duke and Miami.

Clemson has its last remaining scheduled regular-season game at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The Tigers have a game to make up against Florida State. It is not clear if they will have to play that game to qualify for the ACC Championship Game. Clemson holds the tiebreaker over Miami with an October victory over the Hurricanes.

Miami opened the 2019 season with a loss to Florida. The consensus bowl projections have the Hurricanes and Gators with an expected rematch in the Orange Bowl at the end of December. Kicking woes as they often did in 2019 cost Miami a chance to defeat Florida in 2019. The Gators are 7-1 in 2020.

After a bye following their loss to Florida to open the 2019 season, more kicking woes cost Miami in a 28-25 loss at North Carolina in 2019. A missed extra point and two missed field goals contributed to the loss to the Tar Heels in 2019. The kicking issues continued in an October 2019 loss to Georgia Tech.

The Hurricanes missed three field goals in regulation and lost 28-21 to Georgia Tech in overtime. Georgia Tech entered the game against Miami 1-5. Miami lost another opportunity for a victory when Duke scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to erase a 17-13 Miami after three for a 27-17 victory.

The Hurricanes ended the 2019 season with three straight losses. The loss to Duke preceded by a defeat to FIU and the season ended with a 14-0 loss to Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. The Miami football team will not have a chance to avenge the 2019 losses to FIU and Louisiana Tech this season.

North Carolina presents the biggest challenges for Miami of their last three opponents. The Tar Heels are 6-3 and have the top offense in the ACC. Georgia Tech is slightly better than they were last season at 3-5 overall, 3-4 in the ACC. That is a game Miami should win and might need to secure the Orange Bowl berth.
