Miami Hurricanes QB D’Eriq King should have success running versus Duke

Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King should have success running against the Duke defense on Saturday.

Duke has struggled against mobile quarterbacks at times this season. Miami Hurricanes QB D’Eriq King has run for 421 yards on 100 carries with three touchdowns in 2020. Including yards lost on sacks, Duke has allowed 271 yards rushing and three TDs by QBs this season on 99 carries.

Jeff Sims of Georgia Tech scorched the Blue Devils defense for 108 yards on 12 carries in a 56-33 Yellow Jackets victory last weekend. Brennan Armstrong of Virginia also burned the Duke defense with 10 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown in a 38-20 Cavaliers victory in September. King should be able to run on Duke.

The highmark for King running the football with Miami was 105 yards on 15 carries and one TD in his epic performance at North Carolina State. King had 430 yards passing and five TDs as the Hurricanes defeated the Wolfpack 44-41 in a Friday night ESPN game last month. King running will be critical for Miami against Duke.

Duke has one of the best pass rushes in the country. Blue Devil defensive ends Chris Rumph and Victor Dimukeje are fifth and eighth nationally with eight and 7.5 sacks makes can make them vulnerable against a running QB. King should provide the Duke defense with their biggest challenge of 2020.

The Duke defensive line dominated Miami last season in a 27-17 victory in Durham. Rumph had eight tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Miami backup QB N’Kosi Perry who came in the game in relief last season had success on the ground with five carries for 20 yards rushing.

King has often carried Miami this season. He might have to against Duke with the pass rush that Rumph and Dimukeje will provide. Duke has also had trouble overall against the run ranking 14th in the ACC. King has been the most consistent runner Miami has had in 2020. Expect King to have a few running plays called for him.
