Miami football should have big day running versus Duke
The Miami football team should have a big day running against Duke on Saturday night.
The Miami football team travels to Durham, North Carolina on Saturday night to face a Duke team that is 14th in the ACC allowing 200.11 rushing yards per game. After running for 697 yards in the first three weeks of the season, Miami has been inconsistent on the ground in the last five games.
Miami has averaged 128 rushing yards per game over its last five. Those numbers should be boosted immensely against Duke. Quarterback D’Eriq King has fronted Miami on the ground over the last five games. King scorched North Carolina State two games ago for Miami but has mostly been contained by opponents running.
King had 15 carries for 105 yards against the Wolfpack. In the other three games Miami has played in their last four times out, King has 43 carries for 75 yards and one touchdown. King should be far closer to the numbers against NC State than in the other games Miami has played over their last four.
Duke has allowed 271 yards rushing and three TDs by QBs this season on 99 carries. King has 421 rushing yards on 100 carries and three TDs in 2020. King needs 253 yards rushing in the last three Miami games this season to equal his career-high set in 11 games with Houston in 2018. King only played four games for Houston in 2019.
After getting off to a great start with 135 rushing yards in the Miami wins over UAB and Louisville Cam’Ron Harris struggled in the middle of the season. Harris has 29 carries for 125 yards and a TD in the last two games, victories over NC State and Virginia Tech. Duke has allowed over 300 yards rushing three times this season.
In their last two games, Duke allowed 715 yards rushing and nine TDs on 95 carries for 7.29 yards per carry in losses to North Carolina and Georgia Tech. The Tar Heels and Yellow Jackets each had 56 points against Duke. North Carolina finished with 573 yards of total offense in a 56-24 victory.
Miami has had a way of making games tighter than they could have been this season. The Miami offense should move the ball easily against Duke, especially running. North Carolina and Georgia Tech are third and fifth in the ACC in rushing offense, Miami is eighth. Expect Miami to commit to the run against Duke.
