Miami Hurricanes QB prospect Jake Garcia’s father Randy rules out USC
In an interview with Rivals.Com, Miami Hurricanes quarterback prospect Jake Garcia’s father Randy ruled out USC as a potential college destination.
After four-star quarterback Jake Garcia de-committed from USC this week his father Randy ruled the Trojans out in an interview with Rivals.Com. The Miami Hurricanes are now the prohibitive favorite to sign Garcia. Miami holds 75 percent of the crystal balls trending to Garcia per 247Sports.
In the interview with Rivals, Randy a former Nebraska QB indicated that the Garcias are upset by the way that USC handled Jake’s commitment to the Trojans. Garcia committed to USC in September 2019 following the flip of current Alabama Freshman QB Bryce Young’s de-commitment from USC to the Crimson Tide.
Four-star QB Miller Moss committed to USC in May. Garcia seemed ok with Moss committing to USC. Over the summer Garcia stated in an interview with 247 that he knew USC wanted two QBs in the Class of 2021. The Trojans did not sign a QB in the 2020 Class. The issues seemed to be from USC recruiting a third QB.
Four-Star QB Jaxson Dart from Utah has been heavily recruited by USC over the last couple of months. The recruitment of Dart seemed to be the trigger for Garcia to de-commit. It has been a volatile couple of months for Garcia who transferred from his home in California to play high school football in Georgia.
"“USC is not in it anymore…now they are offering another ’21 kid and it has nothing to do with Jaxson, it could have been John Doe. Jake was never told anything about it until the morning of the announcement (that USC offered Dart). It was only that. USC was close to home, we all liked it, it would have been a perfect deal for him."
Clearly, the Garcia’s do not have an issue with Dart specifically, it is the idea of him. Joining the USC recruiting class with Moss seemed to be acceptable with Garcia and his family through the entire recruitment. The process by which USC went about recruiting Dart and not letting Garcia know was the cause for the de-commitment.
Miami does not have a QB committed for 2021. Garcia would be the top-ranked offensive player committed to Miami for 2021 and the third highest-ranked player overall. Five-star commits, defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and athlete James Williams lead the Miami 2021 class. Early National Signing Day is December 16.
