The Georgia Tech at Miami football game scheduled for December 19 has been canceled by the ACC.

The cancelation of the Georgia Tech at Miami football game scheduled for December 19 has been canceled by the ACC. North Carolina at Miami on Saturday is the Hurricanes’ last game of the 2020 regular season. Miami can practically clinch a New Year’s Six Bowl berth on Saturday with a victory over the Tar Heels.

The ACC issued an official press release announcing the cancelation of the Hurricanes and Yellow Jackets next week. Georgia Tech will not be able to meet several of the ACC protocols required to be able to play. Miami will have played a 10 game schedule out of 11 originally planned. The game will not be made up.

With the ACC Championship Game next week and this the last week for many conference teams, do not expect a new opponent to be scheduled for Miami. Miami played Duke last Saturday after the Hurricanes game against Wake Forest and the Blue Devils game against Florida State were both canceled.

Miami won 48-0 in Durham ending a two-game losing streak to Duke. Boston College, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Wake Forest are the ACC teams Miami did not play this season. Florida State plays Wake Forest on December 19 and Boston College opted out of the rest of the season including a potential bowl game.

Syracuse completed their 11 game schedule last week with a 45-20 loss to Notre Dame to finish the season 1-10. The cancelation might work in Miami’s favor. The Miami coaching staff will be able to focus on National Signing Day on Wednesday instead of Georgia Tech and begin preparing for their bowl game.

ACC Official Statement

"“GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that next Saturday’s Georgia Tech at Miami football game (Dec. 19) has been canceled.Georgia Tech informed the conference office that it will not be able to meet several of the ACC Medical Advisory Group’s COVID-19 game discontinuation considerations. The ACC Medical Advisory Group report is available on theACC.com (full report).”"

With Saturday’s game against North Carolina now almost definitely being the regular-season finale, it creates greater anticipation and importance on the game with the Tar Heels. Miami would have to defeat North Carolina and win their bowl game to reach one of their regular-season goals of 10 wins.

ABC Sports is sending its top broadcast team of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Maria Taylor to Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. It’s the last chance for Miami to make a statement before National Signing Day and likely to impress the College Football Playoff committee.
