Auburn firing head coach Gus Malzahn on Sunday could impact the Miami football program in their recruitment of five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis.

Auburn firing head coach Gus Malzahn could impact the Miami football program in their recruitment of five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis. There are currently nine crystal balls that have Lewis trending to Auburn from 247 Sports. All nine crystal balls that have Lewis projected to sign with Auburn were logged this month.

Lewis announced via Twitter on Thursday he will be dropping his top three schools on Monday, 48 hours before the Early National Signing Day on Wednesday. That was before Malzahn was fired. Lewis also responded to a tweet from Texas A&M mocking the Miami loss to North Carolina on Saturday.

Lewis committed to Tennessee in April and de-committed on November 30. Tennessee has six crystal balls for Lewis that were logged before he committed to the Volunteers in April. One crystal ball is logged to Miami. It is clear after the loss to North Carolina on Saturday that the Hurricanes need help at linebacker.

Miami has a commitment from two five-star players on defense. Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and safety James Williams who can play almost everywhere on defense should elevate the play of Miami on defense when they step on campus next season. Adding Lewis to Taylor and Williams can make the 2021 class special.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports stated on Sunday that Auburn was one of the few programs Lewis was communicating with consistently. That was with the Malzahn staff. Expect Malzahn’s staff to remain for their bowl game. What the future holds for the Tigers and how that will impact Lewis’ recruitment is unknown.

Two days before early National Signing Day the tweet about Miami is not encouraging for the Hurricanes. Some reports have stated that there are questions about Lewis. Mike Farrell the National Recruiting Director for Rivals.Com was quoted by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that there are questions about Lewis off the field.

Lewis could be a huge signing for the Miami football program but numbers are tight. Miami has 20 commits with 25 the limit that anyone can sign in a single class. The Miami football staff probably wants to save a few of those for the transfer portal. This could be the biggest amount of transfers ever in the portal.
