Four-star quarterback Jake Garcia is finally a member of the Miami football program after signing his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday night to vault the Hurricanes 2021 class into the top 10 nationally.
The National Letter of Intent of four-star quarterback Jake Garcia has sprung the Miami football program past USC and Michigan to 10th nationally. Passing USC was ironic with Garcia committed to the Trojans for 15 months before committing earlier this month. Garcia is the only QB committed to Miami for 2021.
Garcia who is the 46th ranked player and fifth-ranked pro-style QB in the class of 2021 is the highest-ranked signal-caller to sign with Miami since Kyle Wright in 2003. Wright was the third-ranked player nationally and top-ranked pro-style QB signed the year Hurricanes legend Ken Dorsey graduated from Miami.
How soon Garcia challenges to be the starter at Miami depends on a few factors. Starting QB D’Eriq King has a decision to make if he wants to return for the 2021 season. If King leaves for the NFL Draft, Miami could try to sign a QB through the transfer portal. Without a transfer, Miami would have an opening in 2021.
Redshirt junior N’Kosi Perry could enter the transfer portal after this season. If Perry leaves, redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha, true freshman Tyler Van Dyke and Garcia would compete to start their first college game next season against Alabama. That’s a tough debut for any player.
Four-star quarterback Jake Garcia of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson, the No. 46 overall player in the 2021 class, has committed to Miami. He recently decommitted from USC. The Hurricanes have their quarterback of the future.

Garcia is playing this season at Grayson High School near Atlanta after transferring from California via Valdosta High School in Southern Georgia. The announcement by Garcia he would be attending Miami came on Instagram. After initially announcing he would make his decision public at 6:30, ET didn’t announce until 7:00 PM.
Garcia is one of the most highly anticipated Miami signees in recent memory. When four-star QB Miller Moss signed with USC in May, the Miami fan base began a campaign with #Garciatothe U. Now Garcia will become the latest QB from California to try and establish a legacy at Miami. Dorsey and Wright were from California.
