A tweet from running back Cam’Ron Harris earlier this week that he will make an announcement about his future on January 1 seems likely that he will be leaving the Miami football program.
The upcoming announcement from running back Cam’Ron Harris on January 1 would seem to indicate he is leaving the Miami football program. Harris tweeted earlier this week that a “Decision will be made” on January 1, 2021. No further information was mentioned by Harris in the tweet posted on Sunday.
Harris led Miami this season with 579 rushing yards and nine touchdowns and added 16 receptions for 93 yards and another TD. Freshmen Don Chaney Jr. and Jaylan Knighton pushed Harris throughout the season. Earlier this year Harris posted a since-deleted Tweet voicing his frustration with playing time.
Harris voiced his frustration on Twitter following the Virginia game stating he was disrespected after receiving just eight carries that resulted in eight yards with only one rushing attempt in the second half in a 19-14 victory over the Cavaliers. The win over UVA ended a three-game span that Harris had 28 carries for 35 yards.
Chaney ran 10 times for 43 yards and a TD, Knighton 12 for 37 in the victory over Virginia. Chaney has 272 yards rushing with three TDs and eight receptions for 99 yards this season. Knighton has 209 rushing yards and a TD and 11 receptions for 135 yards and another TD. They will continue to push Harris in 2021.
Miami signed four-star RB Thad Franklin in the class of 2021. At 6’0 225, Franklin provides Miami with a stronger, tougher runner between the tackles than what Miami has now. Franklin is likely to push the RBs currently on the Hurricanes roster. In the Class of 2021, Franklin is the 242nd ranked player, and 11th ranked RB.
Harris could enter the 2021 NFL Draft or enter the transfer portal. The 2021 depth chart would likely have Harris as the first-team RB. Chaney, Franklin and Knighton are all RBs with the potential to become future stars for Miami. The decision for Harris will depend on balancing his playing time next year with his future.
