The Miami basketball team will play their first road game of the 2020-21 season at Virginia Tech on Tuesday night.

The Miami basketball team will play their first road game of 2020-21 when they travel to Virginia Tech on Tuesday night. Miami will tipoff about 30 minutes after the Miami football team kicks off their Cheez-it Bowl in Orlando against Oklahoma State. Hurricanes hoops have started the 2020-21 season 4-2.

Virginia Tech has started the season 7-1 with victories over then number three Villanova and then number 24 Clemson. The Hokies only loss this season was at Penn State in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge. Miami rallied from a 20 point deficit to defeat Purdue in their ACC-Big 10 Challenge game.

Miami lost to Florida Gulf Coast and their ACC opener against Pittsburgh earlier this month. The Hurricanes began the season with victories over North Florida, Stetson and Purdue before the two losses. Miami bounced back with a victory over Jacksonville on December 19 before a 10-day break.

The Hurricanes have continued to deal with injuries as Chris Lykes has missed four games with an ankle injury, Kameron McGusty has been out the last two games with a hamstring injury and backup center Rodney Miller was recently lost for the season with a right knee injury.

Miami has received the eligibility of wing Elijah Olaniyi who was supposed to sit out this season and had the debut of forward Earl Timberlake against Jacksonville who had his own ankle injury. There is no news if Miami will get Lykes or McGusty back on Tuesday against Virginia Tech.

Miami has won the last two games against Virginia Tech after entering the 2019-20 season with a three game losing streak against the Hokies. Leading scorer Isaiah Wong scored a career high 27 points in the Miami basketball victory at Virginia Tech last season. Wong nearly equaled that against Jacksonville with 25 points.

Wong is averaging 19.0 points per game this season and has picked up where he left off at at the end of last season. Once Miami gets healthy the Hurricanes will have an elite group of perimeter players. Miami has a nice mix of youth with Wong, Harlond Beverly and Timberlake and experience led by Lykes and McGusty.
