FCS All-American WR Samori Toure interesting Miami football prospect
FCS All-American wide receiver Samori Toure could be an interesting prospect for the Miami football program through the transfer portal.
Former Montana All-American wide receiver Samori Toure could be an intriguing prospect for the Miami football program through the transfer portal. A prolific pass catcher for the Grizzlies in 2019, Toure could provide Miami with the number one wide receiver they need.
Toure had 87 receptions for 1,495 yards and 13 touchdowns for Montana in 2019. Toure put up the big numbers as the biggest threat on the Montana offense. No other Montana WR had more than 850 yards. Running back Marcus Knight ran for 1,030 yards. Toure was a two-star signee with Montana in 2016.
Several other schools could be in the mix for Toure. Reports have had Oregon and Wisconsin among the schools interested in the 6’3, 190 pounder from Portland, Oregon. Miami is waiting to see if senior Mike Harley will decide to return for the 2021 season. All 2020 fall sports athletes have an extra year of eligibility.
The severity of the knee injury to Quarterback D’Eriq King will also impact who the Miami football program is able to sign through the transfer portal at WR. King left in the second quarter of Miami’s 37-34 Cheez-it Bowl loss to Oklahoma State on Tuesday night. No updates have been made since the postgame.
Andrew Ivins and David Lake of Inside the U discussed what Taore could mean to the Miami WR unit. Toure is a hard worker whose size would help a Miami WR corps that desperately needs a playmaker.
Taore spoke about his film study
following a 35-16 Montana victory over Montana State in 2019.
"”It was just really a lot of film study, to be honest…We noticed in previous games that’s where they were kind of susceptible, and we just took advantage of it.”"
Toure broke Randy Moss’ FCS playoff record that had stood since 1996 with 303 yards in a 73-28 Montana victory over Southeastern Louisiana in 2019. Toure has shown the ability to perform in the big moment. After the multiple drops in the Cheez-it Bowl by Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins Miami needs a big game WR.
Wiggins is the biggest scholarship WR on the Miami roster at 6’3, 195 pounds. Adding Toure would help Miami in multiple areas in the passing game. At his size, he should also be a good blocker. Miami also needs help at cornerback, linebacker and defensive end. It will be interesting to see what Miami does in the transfer portal.
