From 6-7 to 8-3 with all 3 losses to ranked opponents. This is improving. There is no other way to describe the Miami football season.

The Miami football program took a very productive step in the right direction in 2020. Miami lost to then number one ranked Clemson. The Canes forgot that UNC was on the calendar this year and embarrassed themselves in a 62-26 loss.

The Cheez-it Bowl game against Oklahoma State looked like a blowout with a 21-0 deficit after the first quarter. The Miami football team nearly staged a spectacular comeback victory. Just a few catches made or a few flags thrown would’ve made a difference. Junior tight end Brevin Jordan as always looked exceptionally good.

Jordan had eight receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the 37-34 loss to Oklahoma State. While Jordan may be thinking about the NFL already if he could have a stellar season in 2021 it would pay multiple times over. The difference between being drafted early and being drafted later is that sizable.

Of course, my son Jordan loves looking at his name on the back of a jersey too. In terms of recruiting there is more than enough to celebrate about. Keeping five-star 2021 signees defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and safety James Williams home is phenomenal.

The addition of quarterback Jake Garcia as the highest-ranked offensive player in the 2021 Miami football class is monumental. On the recruiting front, Miami is certainly getting a lot of the guys they wanted to get. Now it’s just a question of how well the Hurricane can develop them.

If history is any indication Jaelen Phillips and Quincy Roche will be forces in the NFL after their time at Miami. Manny should have a few more tricks up his sleeves when it comes to recruiting and announcements that will be coming. One thing seems certain. Miami sure has a kicking game again.

The avid supporters of the Miami football program are Hurricanes fans for life. It’s this kind of support that Miami needs and everything we can do to provide positive reinforcement to our team and avoid negativity are what very little we can do to help make a difference.
