The Miami football program was named one of eight finalists for 2022 outside linebacker Travarious Lathan. Lathan is the 289th ranked player, 22nd ranked OLB and 36th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2022. Among the other seven finalists for Lathan as posted to Twitter are Florida and Pittsburgh.

The other six finalists are Arizona State, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee. Miami only currently has two players committed for 2022. Four-star defensive tackle Brandon Cleveland from Tampa and three-star defensive end Jamaal Johnson from Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna combine to give Miami the 23rd ranked class.

Lathan attended a Miami camp in June 2019. The Hurricanes were the fourth program to offer Lathan in December 2019. Florida Atlantic and Syracuse were the first programs to offer Lathan in October 2019. Florida State was the third program to offer Lathan a week before Miami. Miami has a young LB corps.

If Zach McCloud chooses to return for the 2021 season, he will be the only senior the Miami football program has at LB. McCloud would be entering his sixth season of college after redshirting in 2019. There has been some speculation that McCloud could switch to DE. All 2020 fall sports athletes had their eligibility frozen.

Miami did lose DE/LB Patrick Joyner who followed former Miami co-defensive coordinator Ephraim Banda to Utah State. Joyner is the only expected loss for Miami at LB. As it stands now, Miami could return all their LBs for the 2022 season. Miami only has two juniors among their LB corps.

Bradley Jennings Jr who started all 11 games for Miami in 2020 and Waynmon Steed are the only juniors Miami currently has at LB. Miami will also return freshmen Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg Jr., sophomore Sam Brooks Jr., redshirt freshman Avery Huff and sophomore Ryan Ragone return for Miami at LB.

Lathan is one of 10 OLBs Miami has offered for 2022. Four-star Wesley Bissainthe from Miami Central and three-star Devin Smith from Oakleaf High School in Orange Park outside Jacksonville are the OLBs with Lathan most strongly considering Miami in 2022. Tyler Johnson is the only OLB that signed with Miami in the 2021 Class.
