The Miami basketball team faces another game to come back from adversity after a blowout loss at Syracuse on Tuesday. Miami allowed Syracuse to make 40 percent of their three-point attempts in an 83-57 victory at the Carrier Dome. The Hurricanes will host Notre Dame on Sunday night at the Watsco Center.

Miami collapsed against Syracuse after taking an 11-2 lead to begin the game. The Hurricanes have played as well as sophomore guard Isaiah Wong does with senior point-guard Chris Lykes missing the last 10 games with an ankle injury. Wong scored 16 points with all but one in the second half when Miami significantly behind.

Notre Dame ended a four-game losing streak and losses in six of its previous seven with an 80-70 victory over Boston College on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes lost 84-62 against the Eagles in Boston on January 12. The Notre Dame-Miami basketball rivarly has been fairly even since the first game in 1985-86.

Miami did win four of the previous five games before losing to Notre Dame in South Bend last season. The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish will hope to turn around disappointing seasons on Sunday night. Senior guard Kameron McGusty returned against Syracuse after missing seven of the last eight games.

Freshman wing Earl Timberlake also return for Miami against Syracuse after missing the Hurricanes victory over Louisville last Saturday. Timberlake has been a key contributor for Miami when healthy averaging 9.3 points per game and five rebounds. The returns of McGusty and Timberlake had little impact versus Syracuse.

Miami head coach Jim Larranaga reported on Friday that Lykes will miss his 12th straight game on Sunday. Lykes was preseason first-team All-ACC. Miami has relied far too much on Wong this season and needs someone else to provide scoring more consistently. McGusty is the most likely complementry scorer.

The Miami basketball team is quickly heading towards a third straight losing season. Injuries have continually hindered the Hurricanes over the last three seasons. Jim Larranga has to do a better job developing depth in the future. Miami played with an eight man rotation against Syracuse.

Miami lost redshirt seniors, center Rodney Miller and forward Sam Waardenburg for the season. Without them and Lykes, Miami is down three scholarship players. Miami has to build this season on a game by game basis without Lykes. Without a big winning streak the Hurricanes will miss a third straight NCAA Tournament.
