Miami collapsed against Syracuse after taking an 11-2 lead to begin the game. Freshman wing Earl Timberlake also return for Miami against Syracuse after missing the Hurricanes victory over Louisville last Saturday. Timberlake has been a key contributor for Miami when healthy averaging 9.3 points per game and five rebounds. The returns of McGusty and Timberlake had little impact versus Syracuse.
Miami head coach Jim Larranaga reported on Friday that Lykes will miss his 12th straight game on Sunday. Lykes was preseason first-team All-ACC. Miami has relied far too much on Wong this season and needs someone else to provide scoring more consistently. McGusty is the most likely complementry scorer.

The Miami basketball team is quickly heading towards a third straight losing season. Injuries have continually hindered the Hurricanes over the last three seasons. Jim Larranga has to do a better job developing depth in the future. Miami played with an eight man rotation against Syracuse.
Miami lost redshirt seniors, center Rodney Miller and forward Sam Waardenburg for the season. Without them and Lykes, Miami is down three scholarship players. Miami has to build this season on a game by game basis without Lykes. Without a big winning streak the Hurricanes will miss a third straight NCAA Tournament.
