The Miami basketball team plays at Wake Forest on Saturday with a continually shorthanded roster. Miami dismissed freshman forward Matt Cross on Thursday from the basketball program for undisclosed reasons. The Hurricanes head to Winston-Salem with a three-game losing streak 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the ACC.

Wake Forest did not get its first ACC win of the season until a 76-75 victory over Pittsburgh last Saturday. The Demon Deacons are coming off of a 72-67 loss at North Carolina State on Wednesday. Wake Forest has been dominated in the ACC. The Demon Deacons are allowing 73.4 points per game and scoring 65.5 in ACC games.

The Miami basketball team has lost four of its last five games by at least 14 points. The Hurricanes numbers are similar to Wake Forest in ACC games. Miami averaged 64.2 PPG and is allowing 73.5 in conference games. Miami had a three-game stretch where they lost by a total of five games before the last four losses.

Without Cross, redshirt sophomore Deng Gak who brings an entirely different skill set will likely receive his minutes. Cross was leading Miami making 40 percent of his three-point shots. Gak is not much of an offensive threat but can help rebounding and blocking shots. Miami is down to six healthy scholarship players.

The Miami basketball team has not lost to Wake Forest since 2019 and has won four of the last five against the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest is led by first-year head coach Steve Forbes who is in his first year with the Demon Decons after five straight 20 win seasons at East Tennessee State and a 30 win season last year.

Wake Forest has had its own roster issues. Freshman forward Tarik Ingraham is out for the season because of COVID-19. Graduate transfer Ian DuBose was cleared to return to practice this week, but it is not known if he will return to play against Miami on Saturday. Wake Forest is led by guard Daivien Williamson who averages 13.5 PPG.
