The Miami football program was named a finalist for their top 2022 quarterback prospect Jacurri Brown on Thursday. Brown is one of two QBs Miami is targeting in the Class of 2022 strongly considering Miami. Brown is also named Arizona State, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M in his final list of five schools he’s considering.

Zion Turner of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale is the other QB strongly considering Miami according to 247Sports.Com. Two crystal balls by 247Sports.Com project Brown to commit to Florida and one has him eventually signing with Miami.

Brown is the 126th ranked player nationally, the sixth-ranked dual-threat QB and the 14th ranked player in Georgia for Valdosta Downes. Turner is 441st, 14th and 56th. Brown told Inside the U he is not setting a date with his commitment but that it will come soon.

Miami currently has redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha, freshman Tyler Van Dyke and 2021 signee Jake Garcia as QBs who are expected to be on the Miami football roster in 2022. The Hurricanes will lose starting QB, D’Eriq King, following the 2021 season. King is out with a torn ACL this spring.

The absence of King for Spring Football will give Garcia, Matocha and Van Dyke a chance to compete for first-team snaps. Whoever emerges from those three after the spring will have the lead to backup up King during the season. Matocha and Van Dyke will have the advantage in their second years in the Rhett Lashlee offense.

dark. Next. Miami should benefit from extended recruiting dead period

Auburn and Texas A&M already have QBs committed in their 2022 classes. Arizona State and Florida do not have a QB committed for 2022. The Sun Devils are the prohibitive favorite to receive a commitment from four-star QB A.J. Duffy who named his four finalists on Saturday and did not include Miami.
