The Miami basketball team hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday with the announcements this week that freshman wing Earl Timberlake is out for the season and senior guard Chris Lykes is unlikely to return. Miami has dealt with significant absences throughout its roster for the third straight season.

Lykes has missed all but the first two games of the season after suffering a severely sprained ankle. Timberlake has played in only seven games this season and is out for the rest of the year with an injured shoulder. Miami has played most of the 2020-21 season with seven scholarship players at the most.

Sophomore guard Isaiah Wong has been a bright spot for Miami during a 7-12 season. Wong is averaging 17.4 points per game, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Miami enters Saturday’s game with a two-game losing streak and losses in six of their last seven. The Hurricanes are 3-11 in the ACC.

Miami has four ACC losses and five overall by four points or less. The Hurricanes are coming off of a 71-61 loss to Notre Dame that the Fighting Irish pulled away over the final seven minutes. Notre Dame swept the season series with Miami. Georgia Tech travels to Coral Gables hoping to make a late-season push for the NCAA Tournament.
