The Miami baseball team lost two out of three to Virginia Tech after upsetting number one ranked Florida with a series victory last weekend. Miami entered the weekend ranked as high as first by Collegiate Baseball and a consensus top 10 team nationally. A lack of hitting hurt Miami in the first two games of the series.

Miami lost the opening game of the series on Friday night 5-3. The Hurricanes scored two runs in the first and one in the third before Virginia silenced the Miami bats the remainder of the evening. Anthony Vilar and Jordan Lala combined to go three for five with all three runs scored for Miami at the top of the order.

The Hurricanes had just six hits in the opening game of the series. The Virginia Tech bullpen dominated Miami to win on Friday night. Matthew Siverling and Shane Connolly combined to pitch six innings, allowing three hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Miami starter Daniel Federman had his second straight rough outing.

Federman pitched six innings, allowed six hits, five runs, all earned, no walks and seven strikeouts. Jake Garland pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit, one walk and five strikeouts. T.J. Rumfield and Cade Hunter each drove in two runs for Virginia Tech. The Miami baseball team relied on pitching to win on Saturday night.

Freshman starter Alejandro Rosario pitched seven innings, allowing three hits, no runs with one walk and seven strikeouts. Yohandy Morales and Adrian DelCastillo each had two hits for Miami in the 3-0 Hurricanes victory. All three Miami runs came in the first inning. The Hokies bullpen shutout Miami again.

Kevin Madden gave the Hokies the lead for good with a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning.
