Miami Hurricanes prospect Jacurri Brown would be the second Elite 11 quarterback in the program if he commits as expected later this month. Brown was named to the Elite 11 on Sunday. Brown will announce his college destination on March 26. Being named Elite 11 is a prestigious honor. According to the Elite 11 website, 12 of the past 13 QBs to win the Heisman Trophy attended the Elite 11 finals or a regional. Fifteen of the top 20 passers in the NFL 2019 attended the Elite 11 finals or regional.
In addition to Miami, Brown is also considering Arizona State, Auburn and Florida. Texas A&M. The Hurricanes lead with all four crystal balls from 247 Sports projecting Brown to commit to Miami at the end of the month. Brown is a unique dual-threat QB at 6’4, 205 pounds who is currently more polished as a runner than a passer.
Brown participated in the Atlanta Regional of the Elite 11 this weekend. Rusty Mansell of 247 observed Brown needs to work on his accuracy but can hurt opponents with his ability to run. At his size, Brown should be adept at breaking tackles and punishing defenses. No QB on the Miami roster compares to Brown.
"“Another good day. There were times he looked like the guy and there were a few throws you want him to be a little bit better but overall it’s hard not to look at him and not be excited about the potential. He’s big, athletic, you want him to get more accurate but he can hurt you with his legs, he’s physical, he’s got a big arm and all his deficiencies are fixable.”"
Brown has run for 3,323 yards, averaged 6.8 yards per carry and scored 44 touchdowns during his high school career. Brown has thrown for 3,387 yards, 28 TDs and 14 interceptions. The accuracy issues for Brown are illustrated by a 52.8 career completion percentage. That number has gone up to 56.3 percent in 2019 and 2020.
Brown would be the sole true-dual threat QB on the Miami Hurricanes for 2022 if he commits by the end of the month. Garcia, Van Dyke and redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha are more traditional Pro-Style QBs. If Brown commits to Miami in less than three weeks the future will be extremely bright for the Hurricanes at QB.
