The announcement by the ACC Network earlier this week that they will televise the Miami Hurricanes spring game could help in recruiting. Miami is one of nine ACC programs that will have their spring football game aired by the ACC Network. The Hurricanes will kick off at 11 AM ET on April 17.

Miami will have its spring game televised for the first time since at least 2018. Spring games were canceled last season because of COVID-19 and the 2019 Miami spring football game was not televised. Miami enters the 2021 season with 19 returning starters. Miami Pro Day is also on the ACC Network, Monday, March 29 at 1 PM ET.

Miami could have one of their top recruits for the Class of 2022 committed before the spring game. Four-star quarterback Jacurri Brown will announce his non-binding college destination on March 26. Miami is the favorite to land Brown. The focus of the spring game will be on the young QBs on the 2021 Miami roster.

Redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha, freshman Tyler Van Dyke and 2021 signee Jake Garcia have a chance to show their skills with starting QB D’Eriq King out this spring after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Cheez-it Bowl loss to Oklahoma State in December. Everyone but tight end Brevin Jordan returns on offense.

Matocha and Van Dyke will have a chance to shown how much they have developed during their year under offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee in his second season with the Miami Hurricanes. The game should be a key showcase for the Miami Hurricanes program, particulary with new coaches at every position group on defense.

Miami hired Jess Simpson as the new defensive line coach, Ishmael Aristide as the strikers coach and Travaris Robinson as the defensive backs coach. DeMarcus Van Dyke was promoted to cornerbacks coach and Miami moved Jonthan Patke from coaching strikers to inside linebackers coach.

Patke will continue to be the special teams coordinator. Eight Miami 2021 signees were early enrollees and are expected to participate in the spring game. Recruits will probably close watch how the newcomers and young players on the Hurricanes roster perform in the spring game. Three transfers will make their Miami debuts.

Wide receiver Charleston Rambo transfered from Oklahoma, defensvie end Deandre Johnson arrives from Tennessee, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson joins Miami from Georgia. Those three add a veteran prescence. Johnson was especially needed after Miami lost Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche at DE.

Head coach Manny Diaz said earlier this week that he does not expect fans to be able to attend the spring game at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami last played a spring game in Miami in 2018. The Hurricanes 2019 game was played in Orlando with Hard Rock Stadium unavailable. That was done as practice for the 2019 season opener.
