The Miami football program strengthened their quarterback room on Friday morning with a commitment from four-star Jacurri Brown. Brown is the 167th player, the fifth-ranked dual-threat QB and 20th ranked player in Georgia in the Class of 2022. Brown joins Peyton Matocha, Tyler Van Dyke and Jake Garcia as 2022 Miami QBs.

Brown picked the Miami football program over Arizona State, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M. The Hurricanes and Sun Devils are the only two of those five who did not have a QB committed for 2022 before Brown announced his decision to pledge to Miami. Brown made his announcement live on CBS Sports HQ on Friday morning.

Brown is the second commit to the 2022 Miami recruiting class. The Hurricanes previously received a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Brandon Cleveland. Brown committing to Miami improves the Hurricanes 2022 Class from 55th to 34th sandwiched between ACC rivals Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The commitment from Brown could start more players pledging to Miami in the 2022 Class. Brown visited Miami last weekend with three-star athlete Isaiah Bond who is also from Georgia. Bond and Brown are teammates on the DOMO seven-on-seven team based out of Atlanta.

Brown plays for Lowndes High School out of Valdosta, Georgia. Miami 2021 signee, edge rusher Thomas Davis was a high school teammate of Brown. According to Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U, Brown has led Lowndes to a 24-3 record since becoming the starter as a Sophomore in 2019.

Brown will enter Miami in the Class of 2022 with an open competition for QB. The Hurricanes will lose starting QB, D’Eriq King, after the 2021 season. Matocha and Van Dyke received very limited experience during the 2020 season. Garcia, Matocha and Van Dyke will all receive experience this spring with King out with a torn ACL.

Brown fits the up-tempo spread run by offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee more than Miami QBs. At 6’4, 205 pounds with the ability to put on another 20 to 30 pounds of muscle give Brown a bright future. Brown runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports calls him dangerous with the ball in his hands.
