The Miami Hurricanes Pro Day will be televised by the ACC Network at 1 PM eastern time on Monday. This will be one of the smallest Pro Days that Miami has conducted in recent memory. Six Hurricanes will take part on Monday. Defensive tackle Chigozie Nnorurka who last played for Miami in 2019 is included.
Only five 2020 Miami Hurricanes are entering the 2021 NFL Draft. The NCAA granted all 2020-21 athletes an extra season of eligibility. Defensive end Quincy Roche and kicker Jose Borregales chose not to take advantage of the fifth season of college football and instead enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
Redshirt junior Jaelan Phillips and junior tight end Brevin Jordan chose to forego two seasons of eligibility to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Redshirt sophomore DE Greg Rousseau who opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 will also participate in Miami Hurricanes Pro Day on Monday.
Pro Days for each school take on added significance for the players this year because the NFL canceled the NFL combine annually held in Indianapolis due to COVID. Jordan, Phillips, Roche and Rousseau have the most to gain at Pro Day. Phillips and Rousseau are both projected to be selected in the first round.
"“Talking to people that work in NFL, they’re dealing with what we’re dealing with in recruiting going through a year-long dead period. This is uncharted territory for them as well. No combine, no onsite visits. Even the Pro Day’s limited to only three people from each franchise can attend. So, they’re flying blind in a lot of ways like we’re flying blind. Everybody’s got to adapt, and it is what it is. All you want to see them do is you want to see them compete. I mean, these guys, athletically, they’re all off the charts anyway. They all put up great film. They all did great things when they were here at University of Miami. You want them to cement that with a great Pro Day that really leaves no doubt. I know the personalities and who they are as people. They would be an asset to any NFL franchise, and it just takes the right fit."
Miami head coach Manny Diaz summed up what his players are going through before Pro Day. The limitations that the NFL has put on personnel and scouting departments and the absence of a combine make Pro Day more vital for the participants. Roche had a chance to be in front of NFL people at the Senior Bowl in January.
Roche is expected to be a second-day pick in the second or third round of the NFL Draft. Borregales and Nnourka are almost certain to be undrafted free agents. Borragales should have a bright NFL future after making 20 of his 22 field-goal attempts, including a 57-yarders and all 37 extra points in 2020.
