The Miami football program has been named as a finalist for 6’4 wide receiver Marcus Peterson from Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, 65 miles west of Jacksonville. Miami has been targeting lank WRs in the Class of 2022. Peterson is one of four WRs the Hurricanes have offered for 2022 that are 6’4 or taller.

Peterson is the 690th ranked player, ranked 38th at tight end but also listed as a WR and the 89th ranked player in Florida for 2022. Miami is deep at WR for the next few seasons after signing seven wideouts in the last two classes. The Hurricanes will definitely lose senior Mike Harley following the 2021 season.

Senior transfer Charleston Rambo who joined Miami from Oklahoma in January, juniors Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins and second-year redshirt freshman Jeremiah Payton are all eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft. The young Miami WRs should have a chance to make the rotation over the next couple of seasons.

Peterson was a multi-dimensional player for Columbia passing for 637 yards, rushing 205 and added 286 receiving yards while passing for six touchdowns, rushing for four and reaching the end zone seven times on receptions. Peterson was also the punter for Columbia and had three returns. Miami will love his length.

This has been a busy week for recruiting for the Miami football program. The Hurricanes were named finalists for four-star TE Kaden Helms, four-star CBs Khamauari Rogers and Azareyeh Thomas. The Miami coaching staff which is almost entirely new on defense has been working hard.

The Hurricanes offensive coaching staff led by coordinator Rhett Lashlee is primarily entering their second season with Miami. Hurricanes WR coach Rob Likens did a good job closing on the three WRs Miami signed in the Class of 2021. Continuing to sign playmakers at WR will continue to help the Miami WRs develop in the future.
