The Miami football program is in a good place after being named as one of 12 finalists for four-star safety Kamari Wilson. Wilson also named Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, USF, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Texas as the dozen schools including Miami.

The Hurricanes are the only non-SEC program among a half dozen schools that are considered to be the strongest candidates to receive a commitment from Wilson. Alabama, Florida, LSU, South Carolina and Texas A&M are the others. The Gamecocks, Aggies are Tigers are the most intriguing programs to watch in Wilson’s recruitment.

Miami hired former South Carolina defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson as the defensive backs coach and Ishmael Aristide as strikers coach after he was previously a defensive analyst at Texas A&M. Aristide and Robinson are both Miami natives and are expected to upgrade the Hurricanes recruiting in South Florida.

The Miami connection with LSU is former Hurricanes Co-Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker was hired by the Tigers during the offseason after his defensive play-calling duties were taken away from him by head coach Manny Diaz. Diaz announced he was taking over the defensive play-calling for the 2021 season.

Following the departure of Baker, Diaz announced he was going to be the defensive coordinator for the Miami football team in 2021. Robinson was a big reason that South Carolina was involved in the recruitment of Wilson and should give Miami a great chance at signing the second-team high school All-American.

Miami is exceptionally deep at safety even though they will lose senior Amari Carter and has the potential of redshirt junior Bubba Bolden and junior Gurvan Hall entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Behind those three on the depth chart are second-year freshman Avantae Williams and 2021 signees James Williams and Kamren Kinchens.
