Miami football adds FAMU to 2024 and 2026 schedules
The Miami football program has added Florida A&M to the Hurricanes 2024 and 2026 schedules. Miami has not played FAMU since they defeated the Rattlers 70-3 in 2016. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 10-1. FAMU earned their sole victory over Miami, 16-13 in Howard Schnellenberger in 1979.
The Rattlers were coming off of the 1-AA title in 1978. FAMU is not playing football during the 2020-21 school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rattlers finished their most recent season in 2019 with a 9-2 record overall and 7-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference but were ineligible for the title due to probation.
The addition of FAMU finalized the 2024 non-conference schedule for Miami. Miami is scheduled to open the 2024 season on August 31 at Florida, host FAMU on September 7 and Ball State on September 14 with a game at Notre Dame on a date to be announced. In 2026 Miami will host FAMU on September 12.
Miami will also travel to South Carolina on September 5 in a game that will likely open the 2026 season. The only other FCS (1-AA) team on the future Miami football schedules is Central Connecticut State on September 26 this season. Miami opens the 2021 season against Alabama on September 5 in Atlanta.
FAMU will open its 2021 season against Jackson State in the Orange Blossom Classic at Hard Rock Stadium on September 5. The games against Miami are two of multiple ones that FAMU will play against Power Five teams over the next eight years. FAMU will play North Carolina, Georgia and Florida between 2022-2028.
The games against FAMU and Florida in 2024 are the next time the Hurricanes play non-conference games against instate rivals. Miami will likely re-schedule games against Temple and at Michigan State that were canceled last season when ACC teams played only one non-conference game. Miami hosted UAB.
