Wide receiver Charleston Rambo who transferred from Oklahoma in January gives the Miami Hurricanes a deep threat they often lacked in 2020. Rambo had seven receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown in the second scrimmage of the spring on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami passing offense was sharp.

According to head coach Manny Diaz Miami started off the scrimmage on Friday with a 58 yard touchdown reception off of a trick play from freshman quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Rambo is starting to assert himself as the second receiver behind MIke Harley eight days before they return to Hard Rock Stadium for the spring game.

The Miami Hurricanes passing game has a trio of surrogates this spring with QB D’Eriq King out rehabbing from a torn ACL. Van Dyke, redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha and 2021 signee Jake Garcia have been doing the slinging for the Hurricanes this spring. Garcia and Van Dyke have earned the most snaps this spring.

The scrimmage on Friday night was the 12th of the 15 allotted spring practices Miami has held. With King out, Rambo appears to be building a rapport with Garcia and King. Several other Miami receivers have made their case for increased playing time this fall.

"“We started off with a long touchdown [58 yards] on a trick play — Van Dyke to Rambo,’’ Diaz said. “Rambo…just looked explosive all night. I thought we showed explosion in the passing game.”"

A video from head coach Manny Diaz was released by the Miami athletic department after the game. Diaz relayed stats from the scrimmage. Junior WR Dee Wiggins had five receptions for 63 yards and a TD and Harley contributed three for 34 and a TD in limited playing time. Harley is having his snaps watched this spring.
