Miami football prepared for many situations before spring game
Preparing for their spring game on Saturday during their final week of practice, the Miami football team has worked on multiple situations in practice this week. Speaking to reporters on Thursday ahead of the spring game on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium head coach Manny Diaz elaborated on how Miami prepared.
Quarterbacks Jake Garcia, Peyton Matocha and Tyler Van Dyke will get the biggest tests of their young careers. Matocha and Van Dyke did receive playing time late in games last season, but Saturday will mark the most snaps they will receive in something resembling close to real situations.
With starting QB D’Eriq King out for the spring, the young Miami QBs are getting their chance to show who should earn be second on the depth chart this fall. How Garcia, Matocha and Van Dyke play in special situations on Saturday will be critical. Playing well in key situations will be important on Saturday.
Fans will not be allowed at the Miami Spring Game other than invited guests. The Spring Game will be televised for the first time in three years, on the ACC Network. How well the QBs interact with the WRs and how the defense is able to stop the run on early downs will be situations to watch on Saturday.
"“We just walked off the field, Greentree Practice Field, for the last time this spring and had a good day. Worked a lot of situations, over time, one-minute drills, third down, red zone. It’s been good. We’re looking to get back into Hard Rock an ACC Network, national TV audience and showing our progress that we made this spring.’’"
Getting in front of a national television audience on the ACC Network will be important for the Miami football team as they hope to continue the momentum in recruiting for the Class of 2022. The Hurricanes signed the 12th ranked Class in 2021. Four-Star QB Jacurri Brown is the only commit Miami has for 2022.
Miami has 19 starters back from last season, but will be missing 16 players in the Spring Game. The players who will participate will have more of a chance to compete on Saturday and react to the situations that Diaz mentioned on Thursday. The Miami Spring Game will kick off at 11 AM ET.
