Miami basketball gets huge addition landing DePaul point guard Charlie Moore
The Miami basketball program gained a huge addition on Monday when De Paul point guard Charlie Moore announced he will play his last season of college for the Hurricanes. Moore averaged 14.4 points per game, 3.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 16 games with 15 starts with the Blue Demons last season.
The addition of Moore is huge for the Miami basketball program short on players. Miami desperately needed a point guard with the loss of Chris Lykes who transferred to Arkansas last month. Miami will be the fourth program for Moore in six seasons of college basketball.
Moore was previously at California and Kansas before De Paul. Shane Larkin led Miami to ACC regular season and tournament titles in 2013 after transferring to Miami from DePaul. Moore is a Chicago native who played at Morgan Park High School. The Miami basketball roster is still undetermined for 2021-22.
Guards Kameron McGusty and Isaiah Wong are have entered their names in the NBA Draft with the possibility of returning for the 2021-22 season. A backcourt of McGusty, Moore and Wong would be greatly improved for Miami over what they had last season. Harlond Beverly is also returning for Miami.
In three of his four collegiate seasons, Moore has been a starter. Moore started all 34 games for Cal in 2016-17 and averaged 12.2 PPG, 2.0, RPG and 3.5 APG. Following that season, Moore transferred to Kansas where he sat out the 2017-18 season. Moore was a backup at Kansas in his only season in Lawrence.
In 35 games with one start with the Jayhawks Moore averaged 2.9 PPG, 1.0 RPG and 1.3 APG. Moore transferred to DePaul following the season. In two seasons with the Blue Demons, Moore averaged 15.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 5.5 APG. Moore has shot 32.4 percent on three-point attempts and 77.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Moore joins wing Jordan Miller who transferred to Miami from George Mason earlier this spring. Moore left Cal and DePaul following coaching changes. DePaul fired head coach Dave Leitao following the 2020-21 season. Harlond Beverly, Deng Gak, Rodney Miller, Sam Waardenburg, Anthony Walker are returning for Miami.
