With spring practice concluding this past Saturday with the Spring Game, Manny Diaz and the Miami football staff are preparing for a June recruiting mania like never before. In-person recruiting will open on June 1 for the first time since the middle of March in 2020. The Miami staff will work on Spring film in May.

May is more traditionally a month college football staffs are out recruiting. The Miami football staff has a lot of film to review and critique from this spring. Miami has 19 starters returning, but many of them will be challenged to hold on to those spots. Several Miami players asserted themselves this spring.

Jake Garcia, a 2021 signee and early enrollee put great performances on tape during the two scrimmages and Spring Game. Wide receiver Charleston Rambo who transferred from Oklahoma played like a number one or number two receiver and linebacker Corey Flagg is pressing returning starter Bradley Jennings Jr.

During an appearance on the Joe Rose Show on Monday, Diaz spoke about what is ahead the next two months for the Miami football staff. In his words, the Hurricanes are bracing for a manic June with recruiting. The ability to be in front of the players for the first time in over 14 months will be critical.

"“It’s a little different month of May…Normally we’d all go out recruiting. We have exit interviews with our players. We’re going to get into our spring film review, critique everything we did this spring. Then we’ll get into all our summer scouting reports on first four opponents, conference opponents, new coaches and we’ve got to get familiar with the people we’re going to play. We’ll be working toward June, which will be a recruiting mania as we’ve never seen before. It’s going to be fun.”Courtesy Miami Herald"

As Diaz mentions Miami will be preparing for their first four opponents (with Alabama in the opener), familiarizing themselves with opponents, dealing with a manic June with nearly the entire defensive coaching staff new for 2021. Miami hired a new defensive line coach, strikers coach, defensive backs and cornerback coaches.

Jess Simpson returns as the DL coach, Ishmael Aristide is the striker coach, DeMarcus Van Dyke was promoted from the recruiting staff to cornerbacks and Travaris Robinson will oversee the entire secondary as the DB coach. They have all jumped right in and coached their positions this spring and worked on recruiting.

Miami only has four-star QB Jacurri Brown committed for 2022. The Hurricanes could add multiple commits in June with official visits. June 2021 will arguably be the most important month recruiting in college football history. The 14-month break from evaluating recruits is unprecedented and changed college football.
