Pro Football Focus rated Miami Hurricanes cornerback Tyrique Stevenson subpar to so-so during his two seasons playing for Georgia. Stevenson was the 37th ranked player and third-ranked CB when he signed with the Bulldogs in 2019. Stevenson returned home to Miami in January. Stevenson primarily played slot CB for UGA.
In two seasons with Georgia, Stevenson had 47 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and 10 pass breakups. At 6’0, 202 pounds, Stevenson has the size to play outside CB. Adding Stevenson to the Miami Hurricanes roster was critical for a unit that was extremely thin in depth during the 2020 season.
Miami needs Stevenson to play at a level indicative of his ranking as a 2019 signee. Miami returns all their CBs from the 2020 roster. Al Blades Jr. and D.J. Ivey will compete for playing time with Stevenson. Te’Cory Couch is the likely starter as the slot CB. Marcus Clarke and Isaiah Dunson add depth at CB.
Stevenson was ranked the 24th best transfer nationally for the 2021 season. Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Charleston Rambo was ranked the 13th best transfer. Rambo transferred to Miami from Oklahoma. Pro Football Focus has a more favorable outlook of Rambo than they do of Stevenson.

He will now return back home to South Beach, where he is expected to try his hand at outside corner. Stevenson actually started his final game as a Bulldog on the outside against Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl and produced so-so results.He made a nice pass breakup in zone coverage but then got exposed playing soft-shoe press technique, resulting in a 25-yard gain.”"
The 10 PBUs in two seasons for Georgia show Stevenson has the ability to make plays on the ball. Stevenson played well this spring for Miami. Stevenson has the potential to become the shutdown CB that Miami needs. In Georgia’s Peach Bowl win over Cincinnati, Stevenson had a critical play defensively to help the Bulldogs win.
Stevenson is the sixth-ranked transfer CB entering the 2021 season according to PFF. Deron Kendrick, the top-ranked transfer CB has not decided on his new location. The addition of Stevenson to the Miami roster should help the Hurricanes on and off the field. Stevenson should help raise the competition on the Greentree Practice Fields.
On the field, Stevenson is a high-level talent Miami needed while adding depth. Stevenson returned home to Miami to prove to the NFL he can play outside CB. Stevenson will be eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft. With a strong 2021 season for the Hurricanes, Stevenson will be a good NFL prospect.
