As the third round came to a close on Friday night, Miami Hurricanes defensive end Quincy Roche tight end Brevin Jordan are still waiting to be drafted. Jordan plummeted from 75th on the consensus big board. Roche was ranked 100th and there were 105 picks through the first three rounds of the NFL Draft.
Jordan was passed over by his hometown Las Vegas Raiders when Sin City choose TE Tommy Tremble of Notre Dame with the 83rd overall pick. The adoptive hometown Dolphins passed Jordan for Boston College TE Hunter Long. Jordan was not as productive a receiver as Long and not as good of a blocker as Tremble.
Jordan has been a go-to receiver for Miami under four quarterbacks in his three seasons with the Hurricanes. Ranking among the best TEs in Miami history, Jordan had 105 receptions for 1,358 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jordan ranks in the top three in Miami history in receptions yards and receiving TDs in Miami history for TEs.
Roche transferred to Miami from Temple for the 2020 season. In his one season with the Hurricanes, Roche had 45 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup. After transferring to Miami to improve his draft status, Roche has to be disappointed to fall.
Running a 4.62 40-yard dash might have hindered Roche. With Miami and Temple, Roche played DE in a 4-3 defense. Some NFL scouts project Roche as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. At 6-3, 245 pounds, Roche would likely have to bulk up to play DE in a 4-3. His athletics as also been questioned.
Roche has proven he is a playmaker throughout his college career. When he was the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2019, Roche had 49 tackles, 19.0 TFLs, 13.0 sacks and five pass breakups. Roche teamed with Jaelan Phillips with Miami in 2020 to give the Hurricanes a dynamic duo at DE.
